Resilience is the ability to make the best of any situation. Some people are born with more resilience than others. Everyone’s resilience may be improved with practice. Resilience is an important skill to try to improve because having resilience usually helps people feel more comfortable in any kind of situation. Resilience may be improved by working on the following five skills:
- Learning to think in a Positive way
- Preparing a Plan B
- Thinking about Past successes and proven strategies
- Using a Personal best strategy
- Using Positive self-talk
These five skills may be referred to as ‘the five positive ‘Ps’. Young people on the autism spectrum may struggle with these skills whilst experiencing a great deal of setbacks during their lives.
