Social Stories Training

As a member of Team Social Stories Siobhan has been authorised by Carol Gray to deliver SocialStories™ Training, nationally and internationally.

Workshop Description

Using lecture, discussion, demonstration, and a series of very short, fun, and informative activities, participants will gain an updated understanding of what a Social Story is, and what it is not, and learn how to write a Social Story, or Social Article for adults, on the day according to the current Social Stories 10.2 criteria.

They will also leave equipped with new Social Story topics and strategies to make Social Stories work harder and longer for each person on the autism spectrum from first steps through to adulthood.

This training uses the most up to date official Social Story presentation and handout materials, as well as real life examples of successful Stories, written for children and young adults in the UK both in special education and mainstream schools and colleges, as well as the workplace.

On completion of the workshop all participants will receive a certificate of training.

Reviews from participants….

‘We had the pleasure of having Siobhan share her expertise (and humor) with us while learning about Social Stories 10.2.  It was a great balance between theory and practice, having the opportunity to write and receive feedback on our very own Social Stories.  It was a thought provoking and enjoyable 1-day training. The staff left inspired and our teams immediately began developing a variety of Social Stories for their students.  It was a pleasure meeting Siobhan and I hope to have the opportunity to work with her in the future. I would highly recommend inviting Siobhan to your school, community or organisation.  Thank You!’

‘Thank you for a thoroughly engaging and useful training session, which used evidence-based approach and real-life examples. Would thoroughly recommend to professionals, carers and parents!’

‘It was really useful to hear all your real-life stories/experiences. It was also useful to work through our social story in chunks, whilst learning about the theory at the same time.’

‘To be able to differentiate a story for each child by student specific needs is a fabulous material to use. I learned a lot more about how an autistic child sees and hears things. Really enjoyed the course from start to finish. The tutor was very knowledgeable, helpful and engaging.’

‘I found it very useful to see examples and hear successful Social Stories. Personal experiences were highly motivating. I liked practicing writing Social Stories. I will ensure my Social Stories are positive and not bossy.’

‘Extremely informative. Lots of positive pointers to write Social Stories. Will definitely be using a Praise Story.’
